Norway Travel Guide

Norway, one of the Scandinavian countries, stretches out along the westcoast of the Scandinavian peninsula right up till far above the polar circle. Where the Vikings ventured out onto the oceans to discover and conquer new lands, tourists now make their way to this beautiful country to discover the natural beauty it has to offer.

Norway is a sparsely populated country and even the capital Oslo is not more than a large provincial town compared to other European metropoles such as London and Paris. The two main tourist destinations in Norway are Bergen and its surrounding fjords, in the southwest, and the North Cape, the northernmost point of mainland Europe, where the sun nevers sets during summer (and never rises above the horizon during winter).

Oslo and Bergen are the two main entry points by air, while many cities offer ferry services as well. To get around by public transport, the country offers excellent train and boat services. Norway is a relatively expensive country, so make sure to have a good budget planning before you go there.

Norway's most popular tourist attraction is called "Norway in a Nutshell", which is a tour starting in Bergen or Oslo. The tour includes a bus ride from Voss to the Neroyfjord, a boat trip to the Aurlandsfjord and a train ride with the Flam Railway, climbing up to Myrdal to connect to the intercity train back to Bergen or Oslo. The scenery to be seen along this routing is truly fantastic, with imposing cliffs and waterfalls. Make sure to put on some warm clothes, even in summer, as the wind blowing through the fjords can be very cold.
