Andorra is a tiny country in the Pyrrenean Mountains, between Spain and France. Although it is an independent state, its size and position have logically led to a big influence from both neighbouring countries, but especially from the Spanish autonomous region of Catalunya. That's why the main language spoken in Andorra is Catalán, while may people speak Spanish, French and, somewhat less commonly, English. Andorra's two main attractions are its tax free shopping and its mountains. The capital Andorra La Vella, which basically is built around the main road crossing the small country from north to south, is filled with department stores and smaller shops selling alcohol, tobacco, electronics and jewellery. Many Spaniards and French visit Andorra during weekends to stock up on goods. The currency used is the euro. The other attraction, the majestic mountains, also drive visitors to the country throughout the year. In winter, skiers and snowboarders come to enjoy the slopes, which are as good as the ones found in the Alps. Although the total area of skislopes is limited, Andorra's main advantage is the much lower costs of both accommodation and skiing facilities. In summer, the mountains are converted into climbers' and hikers' territory. Websites:
